Xiao Hu, PhD
VP Discovery Biology
Dr. Xiao Hu joined Protego BioPharma in July 2023 as VP Discovery Biology and a member of the senior
leadership team. He brings with him extensive experience in drug discovery and development
specializing in autoimmune/inflammation, immuno-oncology/oncology and metabolic diseases. His
passion for discovering innovative therapies that benefit patients is a driving force in his work. In 20+
years, he has successfully identified 10+ development candidates, leading to 5 Ph2 trials. Prior to joining
Protego, Dr. Hu held the position of Executive Director of Biology at Gossamer Bio and at Lycera, where
he and his team delivered multiple clinical candidates for autoimmune and immuno-oncology
indications. Before venturing into the biotech sector, he served as a group and project leader at Pfizer,
where in 10 years he initiated and led various nuclear receptor projects from idea to clinical testing. Dr.
Hu received his B.S. from University of Science and Technology of China, Ph.D. from Indiana University
and completed his postdoctoral training at University of Pennsylvania
